Our kids went from how are we going to blow it to how are we going to win this game, said Vikings coach Brad Allcock, whose team has gone 15-4 over its last 19 games. It was a complete mentality change and we just believe. The Vikings will play Santa Maria in the finals either Friday or Saturday at the University of Riverside.Moreno Valley never trailed in the game, enjoying the lead ever since Gustavo DeJesus doubled in a run to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.Moreno Valley added another run for a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a ground-rule double by Alfredo Samarripa and took a 4-0 lead the next inning when DeJesus drove in two more runs with a two-out triple. In the top of the fifth the Sharks finally got to Vikings starter Pedro Chayeb with a two-run, two-out rally. Chayeb had a batted ball deflect off him for an infield single that drove in the second run of the inning, but when the next batter attempted a bunt, Chayeb fielded his position ably to record the final out. When they scored those runs I didn t let it affect me, Chayeb said. I just tried to get my job done and help our team in any way possible. Moreno Valley answered right back in the bottom of the fifth, though, jumping on the Sharks relief pitcher with three hits in their first four at bats.Samarripa, who led the frame off with a single, scored on Noah Flores double ripped just inside the left-field foul line. Rashad Ruff them singled Flores over to third base where Chayeb drove him in with a sacrifice fly for a 6-2 lead. Our mentality is to win every inning, Allcock said. We came out confident and whenever they scored we just came out and hit back. Malibu kept shipping away, adding a third run in the sixth inning, where they were finally able to chase Chayeb from the mound with a two-out RBI triple.Ruff had some turbulence attempting to close the game out in the seventh, allowing doubles to two of the Sharks first three batters to make it 6-4. But he coaxed a pop fly and grounder to second from the next two batters end the game James Nachtigal Jersey. No situation is too big for Rashad Ruff, Allcock said. He s just got ice in his veins so we re all fully confident no matter what happens he s going to do what he does and he did it again. Likewise the Vikings will now have one more chance to do what, in the span of a season, they have suddenly become known for; winning. We all put the same effort in, Chayeb said. We just picked ourselves up from the beginning because we had seen we were falling apart. We started the season 1-9 and we just pushed and pushed and never relaxed. It just feels amazing.
