Only SWD or JTAG. The bottom line is, you have to change a value in one of the registers - this register points to an address where to the code to run is stored.

Unless, you have uploaded a sketch that allows you to do it (change that register) over the serial port, which I guess you have not.

I'd like to get into playing with 8710 via RTL-00. I'm very confused what exactly I'd need to replicate what I have with my Arduino UNO setup. Basically I want a way to set up the device such that it can be powered by a battery and requires no connection to a computer during general usage. I assume based on this post that I'll need something more than just the RTL-00 board, namely, some sort of flasher? Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you so much!
Alex

Background:
I've been looking for a basic wifi capable dev board to create a low cost online per room thermometer grapher for my apartment and the 8710 should easily do the job. ESP32 also seems interesting however more expensive per unit, and AVR vs ARM so slightly less comfortable toolchains AFAICT.

@lypanov

The project that you have described won't be hard to do.

Start here:
1/ Install Arduino IDE
2/ Install board support http://www.amebaiot.com/en/ameba-arduin ... g-started/
3/ Install RtlDuino: https:// github.com / pvvx / RtlDuino and follow the instructions.

I recommend that you get JTAG or SWD compatible programmer.

@kissste. I thought Arduino was only supported on RTL8195AM, not RTL8710AF because of the lack of RAM. has anything changed?

Thanks for the quick reply @kissste!

I've mostly been looking at https://www.aliexpress.com/item/RTL8710 ... 96730.html but I don't fully understand if this is everything needed to replace my Arduino UNO. I don't see anything about SWD but it seems to support JTAG.

Hope you can help! :)

Arduino IDE works with RTL8710AF too, but you need @pvvx RtlDuino patch to Arduino IDE board setup

Follow instructions here:

https://github.com/pvvx/RtlDuino

Yes, it will work but, as always..... you get only 1/2 of what is listed on an aliexpress/ ebay listing :)

Function 1 - you won't get - this is a different board
Function 2 - you won't get - this is a different board
Function 3 - you will get partially - no debugging, but you can OTA upload new sketch
Function 4 - you will get but you don't need $8 board for it, $2 will do the job
Function 5 - yes, will work - OTA upload new sketch

No debugging with that board, you need SWD or JTAG programmer for that

For RTL8710 Arduino code, here is the link: https://github.com/Ameba8195/Arduino/tr ... ts/rtl8710

I can see most of the code was added 6 days ago. So does that mean rtlduino code is not needed anymore, and Arduino support for RTL8710 is now part of Ameba Arduino SDK?

I haven't had a chance to try the ameba8195 support for rtl8710, but given how much pvvx has done, I will stick with his modded SDK and rtlduino.
