Number of clients in AP mode

Postby wifi_fan » Thu Oct 13, 2016 9:51 am

Dear all,
I want to use RTL8710 in AP mode, and want to know how many simultaneous (TCP/UDP sockets) clients it can support at a time?

It's an easy test. I guess the bottom line is what do you want RL8710 to do with those connects/sockets/requests.

Ping Echo?

Hi Kissste,
No, my question is how many client devices it can stay connected simultaneously (just like wifi router). This refers to number of simulataneous tcp/udp sockets it can handle simultaneously.
I have 8-10 temperature sensors and want to continuously read the data. If it can associate to only one client, then the purpose will not be served.

Any experts, kindly help me.
Appreciate your inputs!

I did a quick test and the SDK seems to be limited to 3 Clients in AP mode. There also is a #define in component/common/drivers/wlan/realtek/include/autoconf.h:

Code: Select all

#define AP_STA_NUM   3

It is only used for setting up a buffer when querying the a list of connected clients from the wlan lib in atcmd_wifi.c, so I guess it is a compile time constant for lib_wlan.a

Dear Tidklaas,
Nice to see your exploration further.. thank you!
It is still not clear if there is a limitation for adding number of client, even if the throughput is compromised.
Any way to check that as well, by increasing that field further from '3' at present?

Kind regards,
